Often described as one of Australia's unsung heroes, Grenache is naturally lighter in colour than Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon but continually provides us with wonderful, big fruit flavours. Bursting with savoury berry and spice, a slightly higher alcohol level is well-balanced with fruit and oak, resulting in a unique red wine experience quite unlike that found with the more common varieties. Yalumba Bush Vine Grenache - where elegance and harmony are more important than colour and boldness.

Wine Spectator

The 2008 Hand Picked Shiraz / Viognier contains 4% Viognier. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives intense black cherry and blackberry fruit with some chocolate, a bit of toast and some dusty earth. There's a touch of oak on the medium to full-bodied palate, with a good amount of fruit, medium-firm fine-grained tannins and a long mocha laced finish. Drink this one now to 2016.

Score: 90. —Harvey Steiman, July 31, 2009.

Wine Advocate

The 2008 Bushvine Grenache spent 6 months in older French oak. It was sourced from vineyards ranging in age from 60-100 years. Medium ruby-colored, it displays a lovely bouquet of strawberry, cherry, and rhubarb with a touch of tarragon and rosemary in the background. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a smooth texture, juicy, succulent flavors, and a fruit-filled finish. Drink this seamless effort over the next 4 years.

Score: 89. —Jay Miller, December 2009.
