Podere Sapaio

Aged for 14 months in barriques and then 6 months in bottles. Originally an IGT Tuscany in 2003, since 2004 Volpolo is classified as Bolgheri Rosso DOC.

Wine Enthusiast

The wine is plush and rich with fragrant aromas of black cherry, blackberry, spice, leather, cola and tobacco. This beautiful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot would pair perfectly with classic osso buco, slow cooked until falling off the bone.

Score: 92. —Monica Larner, December 15, 2010.

Wine Spectator

Offers currant and raspberry on the nose. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a licorice and berry aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best after 2010. 6,600 cases made.

Score: 90. —James Suckling, October 31, 2009.
